Let Sleeping Dogs Lie

Let Sleeping Dogs Lie

Why this twisting and turning
as though that will prevail
Why this shouting and screaming
it’s but spit ‘gainst a gale

Oh you’ve bragged and you’ve boasted
and you thought yourself safe
But this day you’ve discovered
you’ve no legs for this race

I warned you to leave it
to let sleeping dogs lie
because some things if ventured
is a sure way to die

Where’s your laughter and taunting—
that bravado you sold
thus arousing attention
from my immortal soul

I’m no ghost nor a demon—
not the ghoul you implied
Why the tales told to schoolmates
saying flesh I have fried

Simple truth is I’m human
with a bit more mixed in
Though I tried to be normal
you cast that as a sin

Now to you my admission
you must reap as you’ve sown
I’m a master of murder
ask in Hell… I’m well known

A native East Baltimorean, but now a Fairbanks, Alaska resident, Gregory K. Shipman has a day job which often extends into the evening hours. His passion is writing about the steamy, noir side of life… past, present and future. He has yet to earn a dime from his scribbles but has the satisfaction of knowing it’s all non-taxable. Greg is an active member of the on-line community, Writer’s Carnival, the Community Writer’s Group of Fairbanks, and a board member of The Fairbanks Drama Association. He lives a life of hardly quiet desperation with his pet laptop and unreliable Jeep. He enjoys Jazz, Blues, Theater and the occasional diabetic coma…

I don’t know if I have ever read one of your poems. This is good, greg, a wonderful demonic tale. Nice ebb and flow of the lines, and a story to chill your bones. Very intense, yet fear-loving friendly. Great read!
