Playing Tag

Playing Tag

by Nancy Bowman Ballard.

In Gran’s time,
we, sitting under the
spreading branch  of shady oak,
playing tag, you’re it,
thinking, dreaming,
who to marry,
making wishes on petals,
scattering them to the wind.
 .
Now, sitting under the
tufted redbud, daydream
in distraction,
resting, leaning
against the blooming tree,
playing phone tag,
the cell phone
and me.
