By Linda Gamble.
Golden shovel based on Christopher Herold’s haiku:
elevator silence/our eyes escape/into numbers
My stomach rides the elevator
anticipating wife’s seething silence.
The house has emptied our
pockets. I stare with dazed eyes
as the door opens with no escape.
A single toss tumbled into
a future of unlucky numbers.
