The Petrified Fish

The Petrified Fish

By Joanna M. Weston.

it was caught
in a tumble of rocks

by centuries

licked by wind
eroded by dust

until a dog
nosing for ferret

brought it out
for inspection

by a small girl
who took the fossil

gave it to her father
for keeps
