By Nancy M. Bell.
A life changing injury can affect you in one of two ways. You can wallow in self pity or you can pick yourself up and learn to live with your new reality.
In 2005 I was a successful energy and raw materials administrator as well as a horsewoman working with three horses. But in August everything changed in a matter of seconds, leaving me lying in bed with a smashed pelvis. It was devastating. However, it gave me time (what else did I have at this point?) to explore and research some spiritual things I had put on the back burner. More to the point, I spent three years in physio therapy at a major hospital along with a young woman who had lost her leg to cancer and had young children she wasn’t going to see grow up. No matter how much pain I was in or how discouraged I got, I knew that young woman would change places with me in a heartbeat, as would many people in the Cancer Clinic. It really put things in perspective and empowered me to get on with it and make the most of my new reality.
